Five Civil Society Organisations of Tengnoupal District, including The Kuki Chief Association, Molnoi Area Welfare Council, Hill Tribal Council Moreh, Kuki Students Organisation, and Kuki Women Union & Human Rights, issued a joint press statement on Monday clarifying their stand amid ongoing ethnic tensions in Manipur.

The organisations said they were compelled to speak out due to what they described as continuous hate speeches orchestrated by the Meitei community over violent incidents in the valley, despite the formation of a popular government. They stated that such communal attitudes against the Kuki community have made peace and peaceful co-existence a distant prospect.

Citing specific slogans allegedly raised, including “KUKI TUMNA HATLO/HATSE (Lets annihilate all the Kukis)” and “Give our arms back to annihilate the Kukis in 5 days”, the CSOs said these, along with other narratives from the Meitei community, justify their demand for total separation. They asserted that peaceful co-existence is no longer possible under the current conditions.

The statement affirmed that the Kuki people of Tengnoupal District remain resolute in their demand for separate administration. The organisations said peace and development at the cost of their demand would not be accepted under any terms. They declared non-cooperation with any Meitei government representatives in the district and called for strict maintenance of buffer zones to prevent further complications.

The CSOs also expressed appreciation for the role of Central Forces in maintaining buffer zones in the state, noting that their presence has helped promote normalcy. They demanded the deployment of Central forces in the hills and at all buffer zones in Tengnoupal District.

The statement concluded that the Kuki people of Tengnoupal District stand united to oppose any attempt that hurts their sentiment and would “fight tooth and nail” to achieve their demand.
