More than 3,400 people were killed in Iran during its recent war with the United States and Israel, the state-run Foundation of Martyrs and Veterans Affairs announced Friday. The new toll comes as a fragile ceasefire enters its second week after strikes that began in late February.

Foundation head Ahmad Mousavi told ISNA that 3,468 “martyrs… fell during the recent conflict.” The figure is up from the 3,375 deaths reported on April 12 by the Iranian Legal Medicine Organisation.

Independent counts remain higher. US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency reported on April 7 that at least 3,636 people died, including 1,701 civilians. Among them were at least 254 children. The group also listed 1,221 military personnel killed and 714 people whose status was unclassified. Access limits and different counting methods have led to persistent discrepancies in casualty figures.

AFP said it cannot independently verify tolls in Iran due to reporting restrictions and lack of access to strike sites. The ceasefire has held since early April after weeks of strikes and retaliatory attacks across the region.

The updated figures come as global attention remains fixed on civilian protection in wartime. Several Northeast states, including Manipur and Mizoram, continue to host refugees from separate regional conflicts.
