More than 50 Arambai Tenggol militants have set up base at Sikibung in Ukhrul district and are operating with Tangkhul militant groups, Kuki Inpi Manipur said Friday, warning that the coordinated deployment threatens Kuki villages across the area. The apex body described the build-up as “structured” and a direct risk to civilian safety.
Kuki Inpi’s press release 04/KIM/PR/25-11 listed Sareikhong, T.M. Kasom, Leingangching, Sikibung, and Thoyee as active bases for joint militant activity. It also flagged an unauthorized NSCN-led Tangkhul militant camp still functioning in the network without enforcement action, calling it a major lapse in law and order.
The Inpi further alleged that a senior officer in the Manipur police establishment had shared sensitive information on vulnerable Kuki villages, enabling targeted attacks. “If established, this is a grave breach of official responsibility,” the statement said, adding that it undermines the entire security framework in the district.
With Meitei and Tangkhul armed elements converging in multiple locations and no visible containment, Kuki Inpi said Ukhrul’s security environment is deteriorating and requires immediate attention. The body accused authorities of inaction despite clear evidence of armed concentrations.
Kuki Inpi has urged the Government of India to dismantle all militant camps, clear out armed groups, order an independent probe into the intelligence leak with strict accountability, and deploy adequate forces to protect civilians. “Urgent intervention is needed to restore order and uphold the rule of law,” said Janghaolun Haokip, Secretary, Information & Publicity, Kuki Inpi Manipur.
