The Kuki Liberation Army-Letkholun (KLA-L) on May 13 issued a press statement rejecting the proposed visit of the Manipur Chief Minister to Kuki ancestral lands on May 15, 2026, calling it a “provocation.” The statement, released by its Department of Information and Publicity, said the group formally denounces and opposes the planned visit to what it described as “Kuki territory.”
The KLA-L statement claimed that since May 3, 2023, the separation between Manipur and Kuki land is “absolute,” adding there is no longer a shared political or social geography that justifies the Chief Minister’s presence. It stated that any entry would be an attempt to cross a boundary between two distinct entities and must adhere to national protocols governing visits between separate lands. The group said Kuki people are prepared to defend their land with every resource at their disposal.

The statement listed four points of resolve. First, on “Defiance of Buffer Zones,” it said the Government of India established buffer zones to maintain separation, and any breach by the Chief Minister would be viewed as disrespect for Union mandates. It added that KLA-L would not remain a silent spectator to such provocation. Second, under “Total Mobilization,” it signaled citizens to resist the visit “tooth and nail,” stating it would not tolerate the presence of an “enemy figurehead” while peace remains non-existent.
Third, on “Accountability for Violence,” the KLA-L warned that if the Chief Minister ignores the warning and enters Kuki land, any resulting unrest or confrontation would rest solely on him and the Government of India. Fourth, under “Exclusion of Meitei Civilians,” it said all Meitei individuals are prohibited from entering Kuki areas until a definitive political peace is established.
The press release advised the Chief Minister to focus governance on his own territory and cease what it called inflammatory attempts to intrude upon Kuki land. It added that the group seeks peace but would not allow borders to be trampled upon by those it said have overseen the destruction of its people. The statement concluded: “The Kuki people stand united: No Entry. No Compromise.”
