The Chin National Organization (CNO) on Tuesday issued a strong condemnation of the arson and destruction of Molnoi village in Homalin District, Sagaing Region, allegedly carried out by armed Naga groups on May 12. In Press Release No. 04/2026, the organization described the attack as an assault on Kuki civilian communities and called for an immediate end to actions targeting innocent civilians and their properties. According to the CNO, the incident occurred at approximately 2:30 PM Indian Standard Time, when around 30 houses belonging to Kuki residents were burned and destroyed.

The CNO urged all armed groups operating in the region to promote peace and refrain from harming civilian populations. It stressed that attacks on villages undermine stability along the Indo-Myanmar border and place non-combatants at grave risk. The statement noted that residents of Molnoi, including women, children, and the elderly, were forced to flee into surrounding forests during the assault, with no casualties reported at the time of the release.
In a significant clarification, the CNO drew a firm distinction between the ongoing ethnic conflict in Manipur and the situation of Kuki communities in Myanmar. The organization stated that “the Kuki-Naga conflicts in Manipur State have no connection whatsoever with the Kuki population in Myanmar, nor with the Kuki National Army (Burma).” It added that ethnic conflicts from a neighboring foreign state should not be brought into Myanmar territory, highlighting concerns over potential cross-border spillover as the Manipur crisis enters its fourth year.
The CNO, a political organization representing Chin/Kuki communities in Myanmar, closed its statement with an appeal for unity among all communities in the region. The group said preventing the spread of inter-community tensions across the India-Myanmar border remains critical to regional peace, and called on stakeholders to prioritize dialogue and civilian protection over armed action.
