The Kuki Christian Leaders’ Forum (KCLF) on Friday, May 15, 2026, urged the immediate and unconditional release of civilians allegedly held hostage after the killing of three church leaders in Manipur, and demanded a swift, impartial probe into the May 13 ambush.
In a statement issued amid rising tension in the hill districts, KCLF expressed deep grief over the deaths of Rev. V. Sitlhou, Pr. Paogoulen, and Rev. Paogoulun, who were killed in the ambush. The forum called the killings a “grave tragedy” that has shaken the Kuki Christian community and appealed to all stakeholders to prioritise peace and humanitarian concerns.
The Christian body said the continued detention of innocent civilians could worsen the fragile situation in the state. It urged armed groups, civil society organisations, and community leaders to facilitate the safe release of all remaining hostages without delay.
While acknowledging the efforts of security forces and civil leaders in securing the earlier release of some civilians, KCLF expressed concern over those still reported to be in captivity. The forum called for restraint and asked people from all communities to reject retaliatory violence and avoid spreading unverified or inflammatory content on social media.
KCLF also pressed the State government and investigative agencies to conduct a transparent inquiry into the killing of the three church leaders and ensure those responsible are brought to justice. The appeal comes as reports of hostage-taking and violence continue to fuel concerns of further escalation across Manipur’s hill districts.
