CM Khemchand calls induction “historic” for hill districts; DGP says 3,200 violent posts removed, Rs 196.61 crore cleared for modernisation

Songpi: May 26, 2026
Manipur Police has blocked 187 social media accounts and taken down 3,200 posts for allegedly sharing sensitive, violent, and communal content since June 2023, DGP Rajiv Singh said Monday.

Speaking at the flag-off of 477 new police vehicles at the 1st Manipur Rifles Parade Ground, Singh said 5,406 problematic posts were identified in coordination with the state IT Department and MeitY. The police’s social media outreach has since expanded to 79,000 Facebook followers and 27,000 on X to counter misinformation.

Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh, who flagged off the fleet, described the occasion as a “historic moment.” He said the new vehicles would significantly improve police infrastructure in the hill districts and enhance emergency response capabilities across the state.

The inducted fleet includes 100 Hero motorcycles, 39 Bolero B6 vehicles, 50 Bolero Neo vehicles, 74 Tata Yodha vehicles, 10 Mine Protected Vehicles, 20 Tata trucks, 30 Tata 407 vehicles, 20 Mahindra buses, 60 bulletproof Rakshak vehicles, 19 water tankers, 50 Bolero Camper vehicles and five HMR vehicles.

Of the 477 vehicles, 54% will be deployed to hill districts while the remainder will go to valley districts and technical units, the DGP said.

The Ministry of Home Affairs approved Rs 196.61 crore on October 31, 2025 for security, mobility, forensics, and smart policing. Singh noted he took charge in June 2023 when Manipur faced “one of the most difficult times in its history” due to ethnic violence between Meiteis and Kukis. Over 260 people have died and thousands displaced since May 2023.

An integrated anti-extortion cell set up in June 2025 has arrested over 1,000 extortionists in both hills and valley, Singh said. He appealed for public cooperation, adding that protests obstructing security forces aid anti-social elements.

Manipur Police also signed an MoU with the National Security Guards in June 2025 for specialised training to enhance operational capacity, the DGP added.
