New Delhi, June 19, 2026: The Kuki Inpi Manipur, apex body of the Kuki community, organised coordinated rallies across Kuki-inhabited districts of Manipur on Friday to highlight security and justice concerns affecting the community.
In Churachandpur district, the rally began at Koite Village Playground and proceeded to Peace Ground in Tuibong. People from all walks of life participated, carrying placards and raising slogans on issues faced by the Kuki people.
After the Churachandpur march concluded, leaders of various civil society organisations addressed the gathering at Peace Ground. Speakers discussed ongoing security challenges and civilian safety in Kuki-inhabited areas.
The largest gathering was held in Kangpokpi, where demonstrators assembled at Nute Kailhang before marching along National Highway-2 to the Deputy Commissioner’s office. The event in Sadar Hills was coordinated by the Committee on Tribal Unity.
Kuki Inpi Manipur submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi through the Deputy Commissioner of Churachandpur. Demonstrators in Kangpokpi also handed over a separate memorandum through district authorities.
The memorandum raised what the organisation described as continuing security concerns in parts of the state. It alleged that members of the Kuki community had been killed in recent incidents and claimed several villages suffered damage during the ongoing unrest.
A key demand was a judicial investigation into the death of a Kolchung village resident during a security operation conducted in Henglep subdivision on June 16. The organisation also sought thorough inquiries into civilian casualties and property destruction.
Additional demands included increased protection in vulnerable locations, greater public disclosure on investigation progress, review of ceasefire arrangements with armed groups, and relief and rehabilitation for affected households. The submission urged a political settlement to address aspirations of the Kuki people.
Community representatives told media the rallies aimed to draw national attention to issues faced by the Kuki population. They urged state and central governments to prioritise civilian security, maintain peace, and ensure stability while fostering coexistence among Manipur’s communities.
