Kanggui, July 11, 2026: A Kuki farmer, Mr. Haolal Singsit, has succumbed to his injuries after he and his wife were fired upon while working in their paddy field at Govajang village under Tadubi AC, Kangpokpi District.

According to local sources, the couple was working in their field when armed militants opened fire from the nearby hill range. Mr. Haolal sustained critical bullet injuries and later died, while his wife sustained injuries and is undergoing treatment. Local reports attributed the attack to Kacha Naga militants of the NSCN-IM.

The killing has triggered fresh panic in Govajang, with residents alleging a repeated pattern. Villagers alleged that just 4 days before the attack, security forces conducted a combing operation in the village, seized licensed guns used by Kuki village volunteers for protection, and drove out the volunteers.

“The pattern is unmistakable. First security forces disarm us and leave us defenceless, then NSCN attacks, burns houses and kills civilians. The same MO is being repeated,” a village elder said.

Residents are now questioning whether such security operations are facilitating attacks on Kuki civilians by leaving villages unprotected.

Despite assurances given to CoTU that adequate Central forces would be deployed in Kangpokpi to ensure civilian safety, villagers said no effective protection is visible on the ground.

No official statement has been issued by police regarding the firing or the alleged responsibility. The claims are based on local reports and are yet to be officially verified. The situation remains tense.
