Kanggui, July 13, 2026: The Kuki Women Organisation for Human Rights, KWOHR, Sadar Hills, has unequivocally condemned the alleged midnight raid carried out by personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force’s elite CoBRA unit at the residence of Kuki leader Douminlal Haokip at Bongphajol village in Kangpokpi district.
According to the organisation, the raid took place in the early hours of July 12 at around 2:30 a.m., when the family members, including women and children, were asleep.
In a strongly worded condemnation statement issued on Sunday by its Information and Publicity Wing, KWOHR alleged that armed security personnel entered and searched the residence without producing any search warrant and in the absence of the head of the family.
The organisation stated that such an operation, if carried out without adherence to due legal procedure, is not only a gross abuse of authority but also a direct assault on the dignity, safety and psychological well-being of innocent women and children.
“Conducting a heavily armed late-night operation inside a civilian residence in the absence of the head of the family, leaving women and children terrified, is unacceptable in any democratic society governed by the rule of law,” the statement said.
KWOHR asserted that no security operation, regardless of its objective, should be executed in a manner that traumatizes innocent family members or disregards their fundamental rights.
The women rights body further stated that if the authorities had lawful grounds to conduct a search, they were duty-bound to follow established legal procedures, obtain the necessary judicial authorization, and execute the operation transparently and professionally.
“Resorting to midnight raids without visibly complying with due process only erodes public confidence in security institutions and raises serious concerns regarding accountability and the protection of civil liberties,” it added.
In light of the incident, KWOHR has demanded that the Government of India, the Ministry of Home Affairs and the CRPF immediately explain the legal basis of the operation and order an independent, impartial and time-bound inquiry into the conduct of the personnel involved.
The organisation demanded that those found to have violated established legal procedures must be held accountable in accordance with the law.
KWOHR also urged all security agencies operating in conflict-affected areas to exercise maximum restraint, professionalism and respect for human rights, particularly where women, children and other vulnerable civilians are concerned.
“Counter-insurgency operations must never become a pretext for intimidation or actions that inflict fear upon innocent families,” the organisation stated.
The organisation reaffirmed its unwavering solidarity with the family of Pu Douminlal Haokip and all women and children subjected to fear and trauma during the incident.
It reiterated that the protection of human rights, constitutional safeguards and the dignity of every citizen must remain paramount, irrespective of the prevailing security situation.
