Songpi: The Kuki People’s Alliance has taken serious note of its MLA attending the ongoing Manipur Legislative Assembly session in Imphal.
In a Press Note issued on 2nd September 2026 by General Secretary Sominthang Doungel, the party said that Mrs. Kimneo Haokip Hangshing, Hon’ble MLA of 46-Saikul AC, participated in the session unilaterally.
The party stated that her act was done without any prior consultation or approval of the KPA Executive, and in disregard of the collective decision.
The party views this action with utmost seriousness. The matter will be taken up by the party for detailed deliberation and further necessary action as deemed appropriate shall be initiated as per the party constitution, the press note said.
Mrs. Kimneo Haokip Hangshing is one of the two women MLAs from the Kuki community and was elected from 46-Saikul Assembly Constituency in Kangpokpi District on a Kuki People’s Alliance ticket in the 2022 Manipur Assembly Elections. She is among the 10 Kuki MLAs in the 60-member Manipur Assembly.
Her presence in the Assembly is being seen as significant because since the outbreak of violence on 3rd May 2023, Kuki MLAs have not attended Assembly sessions in Imphal, citing security concerns and the total separation of Kuki and Meitei communities. Her attendance on 2nd September marks a break from that collective stand.
