Nagaland Police has asked residents to guard communal harmony and avoid spreading unverified content, warning that instability in neighbouring Manipur could trigger misinformation in the state.

In a public advisory issued Friday, the department appealed for restraint and patience, asking citizens not to share rumours, fake news, or provocative posts on social media that risk causing panic or mistrust between communities.
Police warned that anyone found deliberately circulating inflammatory material or fake news on social media and other platforms will face action under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Information Technology Act, and other relevant laws. Offenders will be identified and prosecuted, the statement said.
The advisory also urged the public to stay vigilant and report suspicious individuals or activities that threaten peace and coexistence. Reports can be made at the nearest police station or directly to Police Headquarters in Kohima.
The appeal comes amid heightened concern that law and order developments in Manipur could have spillover effects in Nagaland.
