Kangpokpi Police arrested three Kuki individuals on Sunday for allegedly attempting to set fire to a house in Daili village on Saturday night, officials confirmed Monday. The suspects were apprehended from a hideout in the district following an investigation into an FIR filed at Kangpokpi Police Station over the attempted torching of a tyre workshop adjacent to the national highway.
Police said the accused were identified as Mangminhao Lotjem, Satgoulal Sitlhou, and Seigunlal Lhanghal after scanning CCTV footage installed at the location. According to the FIR, the trio arrived in a Mahindra Bolero with Nagaland registration numbers and halted along the highway on April 24 at around 10 pm. Footage captured them pouring diesel on the walls of a house next to the highway in what police described as a deliberate attempt to set it ablaze.
The arrests came within 24 hours of the incident after security personnel tracked the suspects using the vehicle details and CCTV evidence. Police said further interrogation is underway to ascertain the motive behind the attempted arson and whether others were involved. The prompt action follows growing concern over targeted property attacks in the district amid ongoing ethnic tensions.
The Daili Village Council, Mao Council, and Mao Students’ Union issued separate statements condemning the incident and urged the administration to take immediate measures to ensure residents’ safety and prevent future occurrences. Community leaders called for strict legal action while appealing for calm, stressing that such acts endanger lives and undermine peace efforts in the area.
