Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio spent Monday in Visakhapatnam, touring heritage landmarks and coastal attractions during a day-long visit. His itinerary began at the historic Thotlakonda Buddhist Monastery, where officials briefed him on the site’s cultural and spiritual significance dating back to ancient Buddhist settlements along the Andhra coast.
The Chief Minister later visited Kailasagiri, taking in panoramic views of Visakhapatnam’s coastline. He described his walk across the Glass Bridge there as a unique and memorable experience. Rio also stopped at the Dutch Cemetery and Konda Gudi Church, both noted for reflecting the region’s layered colonial and religious history.
Continuing his tour, Rio visited the Naval Dockyard and inspected the submarine INS Sindhu Vijay. Commanding Officer Nishant Chaturvedi welcomed him, briefed him on the submarine’s operational capabilities and service history, and presented a memento to mark the visit. The interaction highlighted defense ties and maritime heritage on India’s eastern seaboard.
Before departing, the Chief Minister spent time at Yarada Beach, admiring the coastal scenery. He left Visakhapatnam International Airport for Nagaland in the evening, concluding a visit that combined heritage, tourism, and naval engagement in the port city.
