A Facebook post circulating a video captioned “Kuki narco terrorist girls with Bhaiya Assam Rifles” has been flagged as false and misleading. Shared by some users from the Meitei and Tangkhul communities, the post wrongly labels a serving woman in uniform and links her to an armed group. Officials and media monitors say the content appears to be a deliberate attempt to defame a government personnel, not a simple error.

The personnel in the video belongs to the Sashastra Seema Bal , not the Assam Rifles as claimed in the caption. SSB and Assam Rifles are separate organisations with distinct mandates, uniforms, and deployment areas. Sources familiar with the deployment say the misidentification is a significant factual error that alters the context of the footage and misleads viewers about operational jurisdiction.
The woman targeted is from Nagaland, not Manipur. By labelling her as “Kuki” in the context of Manipur’s ongoing ethnic conflict, the post places her within a communal narrative she has no connection to. Analysts note that such misidentification is often used to provoke hostility and delegitimise individuals serving in security forces. She is not affiliated with any armed group, and the “narco terrorist” claim remains unsubstantiated.
Legal experts say the post may constitute criminal defamation under BNS Section 356 and could attract provisions of the IT Act concerning malicious content. The SSB, as her parent organisation, has institutional standing to pursue action on behalf of the personnel and itself. Advocacy groups have also pointed to potential grounds for a complaint to the National Commission for Women, given the gendered targeting of a woman in uniform.
The spread of such misinformation raises concerns about the safety and dignity of security personnel deployed in sensitive regions. Misidentifying ethnicity and force, particularly in a conflict setting, can escalate communal tensions and undermine public trust in institutions. Observers stress that unverified claims targeting serving government personnel without evidence carry both legal and social consequences.
