The Kuki History & Identity Protection Committee (KHIPC) on Friday demanded that the Government of India immediately abrogate the Ceasefire Agreement with the NSCN-IM, stating that the pact has enabled repeated armed attacks on civilians across Northeast India.
In a press release issued today, KHIPC condemned the “continued targeting and killing of civilians” by NSCN-IM militants in Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, and Manipur, with the Kuki and Zeliangrong communities bearing the brunt of the violence.
The Committee cited the ambush on 29th May 2026 near Litan Kuki village, Ukhrul district, where NSCN-IM cadres shot dead a non-local truck driver transporting rice to Kuki villages. KHIPC called the incident an example of the “ongoing threat” under the current ceasefire.
“Such action is critical to safeguard civilian lives and restore lasting peace in the region,” the release stated, demanding immediate abrogation of the agreement.
KHIPC also appealed to world leaders and international human rights organisations to take cognizance of what it alleges are “systematic atrocities” by NSCN-IM militants against the Kuki people.
The Committee further demanded that NSCN-IM General Secretary Thuingaleng Muivah be subjected to due process of law for the deaths of 1,100 Kuki civilians, and hundreds of civilians from other communities across the Northeast, which it records from the 1993 Kuki-Naga conflict to date.
“The Government of India must act with urgency to uphold justice, ensure security, and guarantee the right to life for all communities in the Northeast,” the statement said.
