Chandel, July 9, 2026: The Kuki History & Identity Protection Committee (KHIPC) has strongly condemned the recent entry of Hon’ble Chief Minister Y. Khemchand Singh into Kuki-inhabited areas under heavy security cover, calling it a unilateral move carried out without the consent of the Kuki people.

In a press statement issued from its office in Lamka Town, Songpi District on 9th July 2026, KHIPC said such visits “violate the dignity of the community, erode trust, and deepen existing wounds.” The committee directly addressed the Chief Minister, stating that “the Kuki people will neither forgive nor forget the torture, beheadings, and people burnt alive — with over 250 Kuki martyrs who sacrificed their lives at the hands of the Meitei community and state forces.”

KHIPC asserted that buffer zones, ethnic district boundaries, and the distinct history and identity of the Kuki people must be respected without compromise. The committee maintained that no administrative or political activity should be conducted in Kuki areas without prior consultation and approval from Kuki civil society organizations and village authorities. “Any attempt to impose authority through intimidation is unacceptable and will only escalate tensions,” the statement read.

The Kuki body reiterated its core political demand, stating categorically that “separate administration is the only path to peace.” According to KHIPC, lasting peace cannot be achieved without a formal Kuki separate administration, and the political aspiration of the Kuki people for self-governance is “non-negotiable.”

In its key demand, KHIPC said the Chief Minister must “immediately stop visiting Kuki areas until a political solution is reached.” It also urged both the Hon’ble Chief Minister and the Government of India to initiate political dialogue for Kuki separate administration without further delay. The committee warned that any postponement would only prolong instability and suffering.

KHIPC, established in 2026 with the motto “History unforgoten, Identity unshaken, Heritage unbroken,” said it remains committed to safeguarding the history, identity, and rights of the Kuki people.
