Songpi: The Churachandpur District Police and Cyber Cell today organised an interaction programme with citizens of the district whose lost and stolen mobile phones were recovered by the police this year. The programme was led by Lawrence K. Munluo, Addl. SP (Law and Order) and Nodal Officer Cyber Cell, CCP, along with SI Pumkhansiam Vualnam, In-charge Cyber Cell, Churachandpur.
During the interactive session, the Nodal Officer expressed gratitude to the citizens for placing their trust and confidence in the District Police and Cyber Cell by reporting their lost and stolen mobile phones promptly. He stated that the District Police is always present to assist the citizens in any way possible. He acknowledged that although sometimes recovery efforts might be unsuccessful or delayed due to technical and logistical challenges, the number of success stories is far higher.
Addressing the gathering, the Nodal Officer stressed five main points for public awareness and prevention.
First, he urged everyone to keep a record of their mobile device IMEI numbers, stating that it is the most helpful information in tracing and recovering lost phones and that a phone number alone is not sufficient for tracking.
Second, he cautioned the public to be careful before buying any second-hand devices from unknown sources as they could be stolen items. He warned that buying such devices can land a person in serious legal problems besides causing heavy financial loss.
Third, he advised that any lost or stolen phone should always be reported immediately to the nearest police station and then to the Cyber Cell. He emphasised that the earliest one reports, the better the chance for recovery.
Fourth, he asked the public to remain aware of the latest cyber frauds and modus operandi used by scamsters to dupe people through calls, links and fake offers.
Fifth, he urged citizens to be extra careful and alert especially in public places like hospitals, hotels, markets and public transport by not leaving their phones unattended even for a short time. The officers also interacted individually with the phone owners and handed over their recovered devices after proper verification.
The Cyber Cell, Churachandpur District Police has been putting sustained efforts for recovery of lost and stolen mobile phones apart from their other regular policing duties, including investigation of cyber crime cases. Till date, the District Police and Cyber Cell has recovered 111 lost and stolen mobile phones and has handed them over to their rightful owners for this year as of August 25, 2026.
The police said the drive will continue and appealed to the public to cooperate with law enforcement and follow cyber safety guidelines.
