Songpi: The Kuki Human Rights Council, KHRC, headquartered at Lamka, Songpi, has issued a press statement on August 31, 2026, condemning the attack on N. Teikhang Kuki village. In its statement bearing reference number KHRC/PR-12/2026, the council stated that three Kuki civilians, including two women, were brutally murdered and four others injured in an attack allegedly carried out by cadres of NSCN-IM and ZUF-K on August 31, 2026.
According to the KHRC, the victims have been identified as Lamtinthang Lhoujem, Tingneichin Lhouvum and Hoineng Lhoujem. The council described the killing of the two mothers as a cold-blooded, ISIS-style act of terrorism. It stated that burning homes, shooting unarmed women inside their houses and forcing children to flee into the forest is a crime against womanhood and reflects complete moral bankruptcy.
The KHRC has demanded that the Government of India immediately abrogate the ceasefire agreement with NSCN-IM and arrest all cadres involved in the killing of over 1,100 Kuki civilians since 1990. It said they must be prosecuted under relevant laws for murder and terrorism. The council also demanded adequate compensation, immediate relief for the affected families, and separate administration for the Kuki community to safeguard their lives, land and culture.
Joining the condemnation, the Kuki Students’ Organisation, KSO Twilang Block, has also strongly condemned the massacre at N. Teikhang. In its separate statement, KSO Twilang said the attack on innocent villagers is cowardly and unacceptable, and that targeting women is against all customary laws and human values. It has appealed to the authorities to provide security and medical assistance to the injured and displaced villagers.

Several Twilang area civil society organisations, including village chiefs, women organisations and youth clubs, have also condemned the incident. The Twilang CSOs stated that N. Teikhang is a small, peaceful farming village with no armed camp nearby, and that the attack has created fear and panic across the entire Twilang valley. They said many villagers have fled to the jungle and are in need of food, shelter and protection, and urged the district administration of Kangpokpi to deploy security forces immediately.
Kuki claim: Kuki organisations claim that NSCN-IM is afraid to face Kuki armed groups directly and therefore deliberately targets Kuki women and civilians. They stated that while Kuki armed groups are confined to designated camps under the Suspension of Operation agreement and do not move freely, NSCN-IM cadres move with weapons under the protection of ceasefire and attack soft targets. According to Kuki claim, this is a strategy of fear to grab land and displace Kuki villages.
According to Kuki claim, the N. Teikhang massacre is part of a historical pattern. Since 1990, NSCN-IM has been responsible for the massacre of innocent Kuki civilians, including infants and pregnant women, they alleged. They cited the killing of a pregnant woman and her husband on June 5, 2026, at Loibol village as another example of the same pattern. Thousands of Kukis have been killed, hundreds of villages burnt, and thousands displaced, as per their claim.
The council further stated that the ceasefire agreement with NSCN-IM is being misused as a license to kill. It said there can be no ceasefire with a group that does not spare women and has tortured and killed hundreds of Kuki civilians. The Kuki Human Rights Council and all Twilang based CSOs have demanded immediate abrogation of ceasefire, adequate compensation, immediate relief and separate administration for the Kuki community to safeguard their lives, land and culture.
