Songpi: The Kuki Organization for Human Rights Trust, KOHUR, has strongly condemned the armed attack on N. Teikhang Kuki village, located under T. Waichong sub-division along the IT Road corridor in Kangpokpi district, Manipur, on the morning of 31st August 2026. In a press release issued on 31st August, KOHUR demanded immediate abrogation of the ceasefire agreement with the NSCN-IM.
According to information shared by the Twilang Area Kuki CSO Coordinating Committee, the incident occurred at around 8:00 a.m. when around fifty armed cadres, alleged to belong to NSCN-IM and its proxy force ZUF-K, stormed the village. The armed group allegedly opened indiscriminate fire on unarmed residents and set several houses on fire, creating panic among villagers.
In the attack, three villagers, including two women, were reported to have been shot dead on the spot, while four others sustained bullet injuries and are stated to be in critical condition. Police sources in Imphal have confirmed two fatalities at the time of issuing the release, while the final death toll is yet to be officially ascertained.
The deceased have been identified by local sources as Mrs. Tingneichin Lhouvum, 40, wife of Tongpao Lhouvum, Mrs. Hoineineng Lhoujem, 21, wife of Thanggoulen Lhoujem, and Mr. Lamtinthang Lhoujem, 36, son of Seilun Lhoujem. The villagers were reportedly inside their homes when they were attacked.

The critically injured persons are identified as Mrs. Nemneichong Lhoujem, 50, wife of Late Lalmang Lhoujem, Mr. Seilun Lhoujem, 70, son of Late Lamneh Lhoujem, Ms. Deilhing Haokip, 55, wife of Chonkhohao Haokip, and Mr. Kamtinsei Chongloi, 38, son of Late Chungngam Chongloi. All injured have been shifted for medical treatment.
KOHUR has called upon the authorities to release a verified account of the casualties without delay and to provide immediate medical assistance and security protection to the affected villagers. The organization said many residents have fled into the nearby forest out of fear and are in urgent need of relief.
Stating that the attack is not an isolated incident, KOHUR said it forms part of a continuing pattern of armed assaults on unarmed Kuki civilians in villages along the Kuki-Naga frontier. The organization said it has documented such incidents and repeatedly placed them before national and international human rights forums.
KOHUR alleged that the ceasefire agreement with the NSCN-IM is being misused as a cover to carry out attacks on Kuki villages. The organization has demanded that the Government of India immediately abrogate the ceasefire agreement with NSCN-IM, arrest those involved in the attack, and ensure protection, relief and justice for the victims of N. Teikhang village.
The organization also appealed to the district administration and state authorities to immediately deploy security forces in the Twilang area to prevent further escalation and to restore confidence among the villagers who are living in fear following the attack.
