New Delhi: Vice-President of India C.P. Radhakrishnan will undertake a four-day comprehensive tour of Northeast India covering Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh from September 6 to 9, 2026. The tour will include academic, cultural and historical engagements, the Vice-President’s Secretariat said on Friday.
Vice-President Radhakrishnan will arrive at Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, Guwahati at around 10 AM on Saturday. His first programme is the Golden Jubilee Celebration of Geetanagar College, formerly known as Kanya Mahavidyalaya, at Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra Auditorium from 10:45 AM. In the afternoon at 3:15 PM, he will attend the Convocation Ceremony of Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences (SSUHS) at Jyoti Bishnu Antarjatik Kala Mandir, Khanapara. He will stay overnight at Koinadhara State Guest House and attend a dinner hosted by Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya at Raj Bhavan.
On Sunday morning at 11 AM, the Vice-President will attend the foundation stone laying ceremony for multiple infrastructure projects at Gauhati University. The Assam Cabinet had approved Rs 109 crore first-phase development package for the university and work will be launched by the VP. At the same event at GU Convention Centre, he will release three books – Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma’s book ‘Integrated Development – Role of North Eastern Council’, a commemorative book on Bharat Ratna Dr Bhupen Hazarika’s Birth Centenary, and the new expanded edition of Chandrakanta Abhidhan (dictionary). He will also interact with students, faculty and leading citizens.
After Guwahati, he will fly to Shillong for a public reception and cultural programme at Soso Tham Auditorium. Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and Governor C H Vijayashankar will receive him. The cultural evening will feature performances by Khasi, Garo and Jaintia tribes and a choir. District Administration East Khasi Hills has declared a No-Drone Zone within 3 KM radius of State Central Library and Lok Bhavan from Sept 7-8 as security measure.
The Vice-President will be in Manipur on Monday. He will visit the Indian National Army (INA) Museum and War Memorial at Moirang in Bishnupur District, where Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s flag was first hoisted on Indian soil in 1944. He will also visit Sainik School Imphal at Pangei, which has produced many officers for the armed forces. He will leave for Itanagar the same evening.
On the final day, Mr Radhakrishnan will attend and address a special session of the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly at 10:30 AM and visit the Assembly Gallery-cum-Museum. Later he will visit Nyedar Namlo – the indigenous prayer hall, the Jawaharlal Nehru State Museum showcasing tribal heritage, and the Donyi Polo Mission School for Hearing and Visually Impaired at Chimpu, Itanagar. He will return to Delhi on Tuesday night.
This is Vice-President Radhakrishnan’s first extensive Northeast tour after taking charge and after his Chandigarh visit on Sept 5 where as Ex-officio Chancellor of Panjab University he inaugurated the Advanced Instrumentation Facility at SAIF/CIL. Security has been tightened and traffic advisories issued in all four capitals for the VVIP movement.
