The Kuki Liberation Army-Letkholun (KLA-L) on 29th May 2026, Thursday observed its 10th Raising Day and the 19th death anniversary of its Commander-in-Chief, Pu (L) Letkholun Hanghal @ Lenin Kuki, according to a press release bearing Ref No: KL/KLA-L/PR/01-26/05, dated 29th May 2026, issued from its General Headquarters.
“Today marks the 10th Raising Day since KLA-L was established and the 19th death anniversary of KLO/KLA C-in-C Pu (L) Letkholun Hanghal @ Lenin Kuki. On this day, the Organisation extends its greetings to all our national brethren,” the release stated.
The group said that “as said before, a few youths inspired by the late Pu (L) Letkholun have gathered under his name not only to continue the steps he took to protect our land and identity, but also to carry forward the struggle to safeguard our land and nation.” It reiterated this pledge to “all national brethren.”
The statement referenced NSCN-IM leader Thuingaleng Muivah, alleging that “Thuingaleng Muivah’s declaration to drive us out from our land and identity under the slogan ‘Nagaland for Christ’ remains unretracted in writing or speech.”
It further claimed that “under N. Biren Singh’s leadership, the Meiteis seek to ally with Kacha-Naga to destroy our land and identity.” The KLA-L said such actions bring “not only hardship but immense suffering to other Kacha Naga and tribal groups” and that “such acts can never be forgiven.”
The release warned that “other communities, in collusion with the Government, seek to seize our land and identity and erase our history.” It added: “If we do not stand united with unwavering resolve, one day we will have no land to call our own. This is our final appeal to remain vigilant at all times.”
The KLA-L, which identifies itself under the “Government of Kukiland” and uses the motto “Wings of the Motherland,” was established in 2016 according to its letterhead. The May 28 observance marks both a decade of the group’s formation and nearly two decades since the death of Letkholun Hanghal, whom it credits as its founding Commander-in-Chief.
The statement, issued by GC Kuki, Commander-in-Chief, concluded: “Kanam mipite Pathen in ei umpi jing taohen!” — “May God be with all our people always!”
