Songpi, July 11, 2026: The Kuki Chiefs’ Association, Manipur (KCAM) has expressed deep anguish and concern over the recent spate of violence allegedly targeting Kuki villages in the hill districts of Ukhrul, Kamjong, Noney and Tamenglong.

In a press release issued from its headquarters at Kim Complex, Bijang, Churachandpur on July 10, 2026, vide No. 1/KCAM/PR-1/26, the association stated that it has received disturbing reports of coordinated attacks carried out on several Kuki villages in the above districts.

According to the association, during these incidents, some innocent civilians were killed and many others sustained injuries. Residential houses were also allegedly set on fire and properties destroyed, forcing hundreds of innocent villagers to flee their homes and take shelter elsewhere. As per the release, these attacks are attributed to cadres of Tangkhul-led NSCN-M in collusion with ZUF-Kamson group.

The KCAM strongly condemned the acts of violence against unarmed civilians and the destruction of villages. It stated that such acts have caused immense loss of life, suffering, and insecurity among the Kuki people who are a minority in these districts.

The association further highlighted that the affected villagers are facing acute shortage of food, water, and essential supplies. Due to security threats, they are unable to access nearby market places for their daily needs. In this regard, the KCAM urgently appealed to the Government of India and the Government of Manipur to immediately provide adequate food grains, drinking water, medicines, and other basic necessities to all affected villages and displaced families, stating that relief must reach them on a war footing.

The association demanded urgent and permanent deployment of Central Security Forces in and around all vulnerable Kuki villages. It said special priority must be given to Kuki villages located as minorities in Tangkhul dominated districts where they face maximum vulnerability, and that security camps should be established to instill confidence and ensure safe movement of civilians.

In light of these targeted attacks, the KCAM also appealed to the Govt. of India to review the Ceasefire Agreement with NSCN-M. It further demanded the immediate arrest and prosecution of all NSCN-M cadres and others involved in the killing of Kuki people and burning down of their villages, stating that there should be no impunity for those who attack civilians.

“The Kuki people want to live in peace, with dignity and security in their ancestral villages. We urge the Government to act swiftly and impartially to protect the life and property of all citizens. We remain committed to peace and are ready to extend full cooperation to the administration in all relief and confidence-building measures,” the release stated.
