The Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM), apex body of the Kuki Tribes, has announced a nationwide rally on May 30, 2026, protesting what it calls “ongoing persecution and targeted victimisation” of the Kuki people by the Manipur Tangkhul-Liangmai and Meitei communities.
In a notification issued Thursday from its Secretariat, KIM said the decision follows Resolution No. 3 adopted at a Joint Meeting with various Civil Society Organisations on May 26. The rally will be held across India under a uniform banner and common theme circulated confidentially to participating organisations.
Two key issues drive the protest:
- Killing of Church Leaders
KIM condemned the “brutal killing” of three Kuki church leaders — Rev. V. Sithou, Rev. Kaigoulun, and Pastor Paogoulen — stating authorities have failed to identify and bring perpetrators to justice. The incident has “deeply shocked and anguished the entire Kuki community,” the notification read. - Illegal Detention of Civilians*
The rally also protests the “continued illegal detention” of 14 innocent Kuki civilians by Manipur Tangkhul-Liangmai Civil Society Organisations in Senapati District. KIM called it a “grave violation of human rights, constitutional values, and the rule of law.”
KIM General Secretary Paotinthang Lupheng requested all Kuki CSOs, federating units, student bodies, women and youth organisations, churches, and community leaders to organise the rally “peacefully and democratically” in their respective areas.
“Kuki Inpi Manipur expresses confidence that the Kuki people everywhere shall stand united and resolute in defending justice, human dignity, and the fundamental rights of the community,” the statement concluded.
