Songpi: May 3, 2026: Kuki Inpi Manipur solemnly marked the 3rd Separation Day on May 3, 2026, calling it “A Day of Total Separation With the Meities.” The apex body of Kuki tribes said the day honors the sacrifices of fallen martyrs and reflects the courage and resilience of Kuki people after three years of suffering.

Over the past three years, Kuki Inpi said the Kuki people have faced systemic discrimination, selective action, and institutional bias under the Manipur State Government. It cited the recent arbitrary arrest of Mr. Otkhothang Baite, former Chairman of Canan Veng (HTC Unit-XI) and a respected social leader from Tengnoupal District, as an example of this pattern. The arrest, reportedly based on questionable inputs and FIRs, has sparked widespread concern and deepened perceptions of systemic bias.

Kuki Inpi said the cumulative impact of injustice has been devastating. Since May 3, 2023, countless victims continue to live with trauma, while many remain internally displaced, deprived of stability, livelihood, and basic dignity. The crisis has affected social, economic, and psychological aspects of Kuki life.

Despite this, Kuki Inpi said the community stands firm to secure justice, peace, and a dignified future. It called for full and urgent recognition of rights, constitutional safeguards for peace and security, and lasting stability. The body urged the Government of India to acknowledge ground realities and take decisive, accountable steps toward a just solution.

The organization reiterated its long-standing demand for creation of a Union Territory with Legislature under Article 239A of the Constitution of India. It said the existing state structure has failed to guarantee protection and equal treatment, and is neither sustainable nor just.

On this solemn day, Kuki Inpi called on all Kuki people to remain united, strengthen collective resolve, and remain steadfast in pursuit of justice. It urged vigilance against efforts to fracture unity and asked the community to move forward with courage, purpose, and solidarity.
