Sadar Hills, June 13, 2026: One Kuki village volunteer was killed Friday morning after an armed ambush near Lasan Kuki Village in Sadar Hills, according to a press statement from the Kuki Village Volunteers Sadar Hills (KVV-SH).

The incident occurred at approximately 8:40 AM while volunteers were carrying out “sensitisation, security and vigilance duties” in the area. The KVV-SH described the attack as a “deliberate, unprovoked, and premeditated ambush” carried out by “heavily armed militants of NSCN-IM and ZUF (Kamson).”

The volunteer killed was identified as 39-year-old Jangngam Hangshing of Lhouthang Village, Kangpokpi District. KVV-SH stated he “attained martyrdom in the line of duty.”

In the statement, KVV-SH reiterated its commitment to defending against threats posed by NSCN (IM) and what it called its proxy, the ZUF (Kamson Faction), alleging the groups “continue to endanger the lives, security, and future of our people.”

The group said it remains “unwavering in its commitment to defending our communities, safeguarding our ancestral lands, and upholding the rights, dignity, and security of the Kuki people.” It further warned that any individual or group found “collaborating with, supporting, or siding with these armed militants will be dealt with severely,” adding that “appropriate and decisive measures, including pre-emptive actions where necessary, will be undertaken.”

KVV-SH demanded that those responsible for the attack “be held fully accountable” and said “every effort aimed at undermining the security and integrity of our homeland will be firmly opposed.” The statement added that “no amount of violence or intimidation will weaken our resolve or deter us from our duty.”

The group expressed “profound grief and deep outrage” over the death, paying tribute to Hangshing’s “courage, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication.” It said his death “will forever be remembered as a testament to the spirit and resilience of our people” and extended condolences to his family.
