Songpi: The Kuki Women Organisation for Human Rights (KWOHR) has expressed its strongest condemnation over the brutal murder and inhuman sexual assault of Mrs. Hatneikim Haokip, who was allegedly abducted and murdered by NSCN-IM cadres on October 15, 2025, at PhaiKhoi to Molvailup Road in Kamjong District.

According to the press statement issued by the Office of the Kuki Women Organisation for Human Rights, Churachandpur District, the body of the victim was found in a severely mutilated condition, naked and bearing marks of extreme sexual violence, in what the organisation described as a calculated act of barbarity and depravity, not an isolated incident.

What makes the incident even more horrifying to the tribal body, the statement said, is the manner in which the perpetrators inflicted unspeakable cruelty on a woman who was alone and defenseless, including acts of sexual violence on her private parts, besides physical torture, which the organisation said reflects a complete collapse of human conscience and moral values.

The KWOHR stated that such a heinous crime against a woman, whether in conflict or otherwise, should be subjected to such brutal and inhuman treatment is beyond any civilised comprehension and must be condemned in the strongest possible terms by every right-thinking citizen and organisation.

The organisation further noted that the desecration of a woman’s body is not merely an attack on an individual but an attack on the dignity of all women, and in particular, it said, it is an assault on woman’s dignity and her humanity as a whole, which warrants immediate and decisive state action.

Stating that the incident is not an isolated one, KWOHR alleged that there is a continuing pattern of violence and atrocities being inflicted on Kuki women in Naga-inhabited and NSCN-IM dominated areas, where women have been subjected to sexual assault, harassment and inhuman treatment with impunity.

The organisation pointed out that justice for women cannot be selective and that the protection of women’s dignity and life must be the foremost priority of the government, and it called upon the authorities to ensure that such crimes are not repeated and that vulnerable Kuki women living in fringe and remote areas are provided adequate security.

The desecration of a woman’s body is not merely an attack on an individual but an attack on an entire community and the humanity as a whole, the statement reiterated, underlining that the remains of every woman deserve dignity and that any act that violates this principle must be treated as a crime against humanity.

In its charter of demands, KWOHR has demanded an immediate and impartial investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the killing and the reported desecration of the victim’s body, and immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of all persons found responsible for the crime as warranted by law.

The organisation also demanded that the Government of India and the Government of Manipur take immediate steps to provide adequate security and protection to Kuki villages and Kuki women in the surrounding areas of Kamjong and Ukhrul districts, where such threats have been reported repeatedly.

It further demanded adequate compensation, rehabilitation and justice for the bereaved family of Mrs. Hatneikim Haokip, who has been left traumatised by the brutal manner of her killing, and urged civil society organisations, women’s commissions and human rights bodies to extend solidarity and support to the family.

Justice for Mrs. Hatneikim Haokip is a matter of human dignity, women’s rights and constitutional justice, the organisation said, adding that silence in the face of such brutality must never become acceptance.

The KWOHR, in its concluding statement, expressed its deepest condolences to the bereaved family of Mrs. Hatneikim Haokip and shared solidarity with all women who have been victims of sexual violence, while appealing to all right-thinking citizens to raise their voice against such inhuman crimes and ensure that such heinous incidents do not recur in the future.
