Tengnoupal: April 26, 2026Grief and solidarity swept the Moreh Martyr Complex on Saturday evening as hundreds of Kuki community members held a candlelight vigil for village volunteers Letlal Sitlhou, 41, and Paominlun Haolai, 22, killed during the April 24 attack on Mullam village in Ukhrul. Rows of candles illuminated the complex as residents, families, and youth stood in silence to honour the two men who died defending their village.

Leaders from key civil society organisations including KCA, HTC, MYC, KSO, KWU & HR, and KKL joined the vigil, offering prayers and floral tributes while condemning the continued violence against Kuki settlements. Speakers remembered Letlal and Paominlun as defenders who laid down their lives to protect civilians, and called for justice and urgent state intervention to stop further bloodshed in Ukhrul district.

The gathering resolved to uphold the sacrifice of the two volunteers, with community elders warning that patience was wearing thin amid repeated attacks. Attendees demanded protection for vulnerable villages and accountability for the Mullam killings, vowing that the martyrs’ deaths would not be forgotten as calls for political separation grow louder across the hills.
