Kanggui: Three Kuki civilians, including two women, were killed and four others sustained bullet injuries after suspected cadres of NSCN-IM and ZUF-K allegedly launched an attack on N. Teikhang village along Imphal-Tamenglong Road under T. Waichong Sub-Division in Kangpokpi district on Sunday morning at around 9:30 am.
According to local sources, a large number of armed cadres allegedly opened indiscriminate fire on villagers and set residential houses on fire. Several houses were reportedly reduced to ashes, forcing residents including women and children to flee into nearby forests.
The deceased have been identified as Lamtinthang Lhoujem, son of Seilun Lhoujem, Tingneichin Lhouvum, wife of Tongpao Lhouvum, and Hoineng Lhoujem, wife of Thanggoulen Lhoujem.
The injured have been identified as Seilun Lhoujem, Nemneichong Lhoujem, wife of late Lalmang Lhoujem, Deilhing Lhoujem, wife of Chongkhupao Haokip, and Kamtinsei Chongloi, son of late Chungngam.
Sources said the entire village has been razed, leaving families shelterless and in urgent need of food, medical aid and relief.
The attack comes amid rising tension in the wider Twilang belt. Residents described the IT Road corridor as tense, alleging thin security presence despite repeated appeals for protection.
Local community leaders condemned the incident and termed it a grave human rights violation. They demanded immediate action against those responsible and adequate security for villagers.
Meanwhile, security forces have been alerted and an assessment is underway. Official confirmation regarding the number of casualties, houses burnt and circumstances leading to the attack is still awaited from the district administration and police.
