Kuki Village Volunteers carried out ‘Operation All Clear’ in Kuki areas of Ukhrul district on April 28 and 29, dismantling at least three alleged illegal camps of NSCN-IM Tangkhul cadres. The volunteers said the operation was launched to secure vulnerable villages that have faced continued insecurity and reported encroachment in recent months.

Community leaders said the Kuki population in Ukhrul has received no effective protection from the Centre or the state government, compelling residents to organize their own defence measures. They stated that multiple appeals for deployment of security forces in foothill and border villages had gone unanswered, leaving civilians exposed to recurring threats.
According to the volunteers, the removal of the camps was necessary to safeguard civilian lives and prevent further expansion into Kuki inhabited areas. Local sources said the presence of the alleged camps had heightened fear among residents and disrupted agricultural activity in surrounding villages.
The volunteers reiterated their demand for urgent government intervention to ensure lawful protection, deployment of central forces, and restoration of normalcy in conflict-affected parts of the district. They said ‘Operation All Clear’ would remain defensive in nature and focused on civilian safety until institutional security is provided.
