Kanggui, July 9, 2026: The Sadar Hills Chiefs’ Association has strongly condemned the attack on Thingkhongjang village in Kangpokpi district, calling it a “heinous terror act” targeting civilians during Sunday prayers. In a statement on July 8, 2026, SAHILCA alleged that armed cadres of NSCN-IM and its proxy group ZUF (Kamson) launched the assault at around 5 p.m. while villagers were gathered for worship.

According to the association, the attackers first detonated an explosive device before firing indiscriminately at the church premises. A woman and a young child were injured in the firing. The attack also damaged a residential house and partially destroyed the church building and property, forcing women, children, and the elderly to flee for safety.

SAHILCA described the incident as a barbaric assault on a place of worship and said no grievance can justify targeting civilians engaged in peaceful prayer. The chiefs termed it a grave violation of human dignity, religious freedom, and the rule of law, expressing concern over what they called a clear security lapse in the area.

The association urged both the Centre and the Manipur government to conduct a transparent, time-bound investigation and immediately arrest those responsible. It also called for strengthened security in vulnerable villages and urgent medical, humanitarian, and rehabilitation support for the affected families.

Reaffirming solidarity with Thingkhongjang residents, SAHILCA said it will oppose any attempt to intimidate villages and innocent civilians. The body prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured and reiterated its commitment to justice, peace, and the protection of civilians in Sadar Hills.
