Songpi: The Saikot Block Congress Committee (BCC) on Tuesday convened an interactive ice-breaking meeting with its grassroots functionaries at the residence of intending candidate DP Haokip in Salbung village, Churachandpur district. The meeting brought together unit-level leaders and workers from 11 polling stations under the Saikot Assembly Constituency to deliberate on strengthening the party organization at the booth level ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections.

The programme witnessed the presence of senior leaders from various frontal organizations of the Congress party. Leaders and representatives from the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), District Congress Committee (DCC) Churachandpur, Youth Congress, and Mahila Congress attended the meeting alongside Block Congress Committee office bearers and polling unit presidents, secretaries and active members. The gathering was aimed at fostering closer coordination between the intending candidate and the grassroots workers.

The meeting commenced with a prayer session. Rev. Seikhohao, Pastor of Kholmun Pastorate Area under the Evangelical Churches Association (ECA), invoked blessings and offered prayers for the intending candidate DP Haokip and his team of workers. The prayer set the tone for the interactive session, emphasizing service, unity and commitment to public welfare.

Addressing the gathering, DP Haokip formally expressed his intention to seek the Indian National Congress ticket for the 59-Saikot (ST) Assembly Constituency in the forthcoming Manipur Legislative Assembly elections. He stated that his decision to align with the Congress party stems from his firm belief in the party’s secular ideology, inclusive politics, and its steadfast commitment to upholding the rights and values enshrined in the Constitution of India.

Haokip made it clear that he would contest the upcoming election only on a Congress ticket and would not seek nomination from any other political party. He reiterated his loyalty to the party’s leadership and its principles, stating that the Congress party remains the most suitable platform to voice the concerns of the people of Saikot and to work for peace, development and justice. He appealed to the party workers to remain united and work cohesively at the booth level.

He further expressed his deep commitment to serving both the people and God, noting that public service is a form of divine service. Haokip assured the gathering that if given the opportunity, he would prioritize development, education, healthcare, road connectivity, and the protection of the rights of the tribal communities. He also stressed the need for restoring peace and normalcy in the region that has been affected by prolonged conflict and displacement.

The leaders present at the meeting welcomed Haokip’s candidature and assured their full support in strengthening the party organization in all 11 polling stations. The Saikot Block Congress Committee stated that such ice-breaking and interactive meetings will continue in other villages to mobilize workers and to prepare for the upcoming electoral battle.
