Security Forces Drove Out Volunteers, Then Militants Killed Farmer: KHRC Alleges Secret Agenda, Slams Army and Centre

Kuki body condemns July 11 murder of Haolal Singsit in Govajang, says village left defenseless after combing operation; alleges bias, illegal blockade and selective justice for 14 Kuki killings

Songpi July 12, 2026: The Kuki Human Rights Council [KHRC] has in the strongest terms condemned the cold-blooded murder of Mr. Haolal Singsit, 53, son of Paokhohen Singsit of Govajang Village, Kangpokpi District, and the attempted murder of his wife Mrs. Nemneikim Singsit on July 11.

According to KHRC, the couple was working in their jhum field when NSCN-IM and ZUF-K militants fired nearly 20 rounds at around 4:00 PM. Mr. Singsit died on the spot with multiple bullet injuries while his wife miraculously escaped. The organization termed it a pre-planned murder of an innocent farmer.

KHRC said the killing occurred just four days after Indian Security Forces conducted a combing operation near Govajang under Tamei Sub-Division, Tamenglong District. During the operation, Kuki village volunteers defending the last Kuki village in the Twilang region, located 10 km from Tujang Vaichong Headquarters under Tadubi Assembly Constituency, were driven out and disarmed, leaving Govajang completely defenseless and exposed.

Raising serious questions, KHRC alleged the attack was part of a secret agenda executed jointly by security forces and NSCN-IM and ZUF-K. “Driving out defenders first and then allowing militants to strike cannot be a coincidence. This is humiliation, injustice, and betrayal of the Kuki community by the Indian Army,” the statement said.

The Council said if a farmer cannot be safe in his own field after a combing operation, the purpose of such operation is questionable. It held the Government of India responsible for the blood of the innocent farmer and called disarming Kuki defenders while leaving heavily armed Naga militants free a shame on the Indian Army and the Government.

KHRC also condemned alleged bias towards Manipur Nagas, stating that for over two months Kacha Nagas have imposed an unlawful economic blockade against Kuki areas, blocking food, fuel, medicines and essential supplies to economically suffocate the Kuki people, with not a single enforcer arrested. It termed it state-sponsored collective punishment.

Slamming selective justice, KHRC said the Government was swift in arresting Kuki suspects for alleged killing of 6 Nagas, but has failed to arrest any Naga involved in killing of more than 14 Kuki civilians this year alone, including 3 Pastors and a pregnant woman.

KHRC demanded immediate arrest and prosecution of NSCN-IM and ZUF-K cadres, a high-level independent judicial inquiry into the nexus between the combing operation and the attack, immediate lifting of the blockade with action against organizers, and security guarantees and ex-gratia compensation to families of victims. It warned that if justice is denied, it will raise the matter at all appropriate national and international human rights forums, while extending condolences to the family of Pu Haolal Singsit.
