Three Separate Operations in Churachandpur: Arms Recovery and Arrest in Munpi and Thangjing Ridge, Drug Recovery and Arrest in Behiang

Kukiland: Security forces conducted three separate operations in Churachandpur district on September 11, 2026, resulting in significant arms and drug recoveries and arrests in different locations, Police said on Friday. The operations were carried out in Munpi Village under Henglep Sub-Division, Thangjing Ridge area between Nalon and Thinghijang village, and Behiang border area near Border Pillar 41.

Arms recovery and arrest in Munpi Village, Henglep Sub-Division

Security forces launched an operation in the general area of Munpi Village, Henglep Sub-Division, Churachandpur District based on specific intelligence. The operation led to the arrest of three armed cadres namely Khual (35) s/o Songneilal of Munpi Village, Henglep Sub-Division, Churachandpur, Money Chiru (30) s/o Jonathan Chiru of Nungrai Village, Bishnupur District, and Thanglalmuan (25) s/o Kamneilun of Nghathal Village, Churachandpur District.

From their possession, the following arms and ammunition were recovered: 7.62 mm HKG 3 Assault Rifle – 01, 5.56mm A1 Assault Rifle – 01, 5.56mm M22 Assault Rifle – 01, 7.62mm AK 47 Rifle – 02, Magazine of 7.62mm HKG 3 Assault Rifle – 01, Magazine of 5.56mm A1 Assault Rifle – 03, Magazine of 7.62mm AK 47 Rifle – 02, Magazine of 5.56mm M22 Assault Rifle – 01, 7.62mm ammunition – 146 rounds, 5.56mm ammunition – 152 rounds, Tactical Pouches – 05 and Smartphone – 02. Police said a case under relevant sections was taken up for further investigation and the phones are being examined.

Arms recovery in Thangting Ridge between Nalon and Thinghijang

Based on the information regarding presence of illegal arms and ammunition at general area of Thangting Ridge, a joint operation was launched by Churachandpur security force from 03:30 pm to 08:00 pm in areas between Nalon and Thinghijang village. During the search, security forces recovered a huge cache of illegal arms hidden in the area.

During the search, the undernoted items were recovered: 2 x 82 mm mortar of Chinese origin, 1 x Rocket 8 ft. long weighing 60kg, 1 x MP5 Automatic Rifle with Scope, 4 x 9 mm Carbine with Magazine, 2 x Pistol with Magazine, 4 x Single Barrel Rifle, 4 x Bolt Action Rifle, 2 x Mortar Bomb, 2 x Pumpi, 4 x Pumpi shell, 1 x Radio set and some combat uniform articles were recovered. Officials said the recovery of heavy weapons like mortars and rocket indicates stockpiling of war-like stores in the hill area.

Drug recovery and arrest in Behiang near Border Pillar 41

On 11/09/2026 a joint team of Behiang Police and 37 Assam Rifles in Behiang during routine patrolling along the border apprehended one individual near Border Pillar 41. The individual was found in possession of 11 soap cases suspected to be containing heroin weighing approximately 154 grams.

The individual was identified as Haukimmang (36) s/o Khamsuanlian of Vanglai Village, Myanmar. Details of recovery include 11 soap cases suspected to be heroin weighing approx 154 grams and 01 Mobile phone Redmi 15 5G Sim No. 9863057193. Police said the seizure highlights cross-border drug smuggling attempts through Behiang sector.

Churachandpur Police said all seized items have been taken into custody and further investigation is underway in all three cases to ascertain source of arms and drugs and network linkages. Security forces have intensified search operations and border patrolling in Henglep, Thangjing and Behiang areas after the recoveries to prevent further smuggling and any untoward incident.
