Subedar Vungzathang Hangsing, also known as PH Moses, of the 1st Assam Rifles and Rifleman Manglemsang Vaiphei of the 3rd Assam Rifles were felicitated in Churachandpur after being conferred the Shaurya Chakra, India’s third-highest peacetime gallantry award. The two Kuki personnel were recently honored by President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi, on 8 June 2026.

Subedar Hangsing received the award for exceptional bravery and leadership during “Operation New Samtal.” In recognition of his service, the Indian Coast Guard constructed and named an auditorium after him. The “PS Moses Shaurya Chakra Shoorvir Auditorium” at Daman was inaugurated by Subedar Hangsing himself on 5 May 2026.

Rifleman Vaiphei was awarded the Shaurya Chakra for extraordinary courage in preventing cross-border infiltration by militants along the Indo–Myanmar border. The citation noted his unwavering commitment to national security and his role in thwarting hostile actions in a high-risk operational area.

The tribute event gave students of Suangdoh High School and Kaikho-En Academy a chance to interact with the two soldiers. Organizers said the session was held to help students learn about life in the Indian Armed Forces and draw inspiration from the awardees’ service. Both soldiers shared their experiences and answered questions on duty, discipline, and patriotism.

A special prayer was offered during the programme by Pastor Mangsuanlal of EBCC Suangdoh. The prayer sought continued protection and guidance for the soldiers as they serve the nation. Community members, ex-servicemen, and local leaders attended the event.

Officials present said the achievements of Subedar Hangsing and Rifleman Vaiphei had brought pride to the district and the Kuki community. They expressed hope that the recognition would motivate younger generations to serve the country with courage and dedication.
