5-Month Economic Embargo Causing Immense Hardship to Women and Children: Kuki Women Union Kamjong Appeals to Lift Blockade

Kamjong: The Kuki Women Union (KWU), Kamjong District has expressed deep anguish and concern over the imposition of an economic embargo against the Kuki community allegedly by Raizan Long, stating that the embargo which has continued for more than five months has caused immense hardship to innocent people, including women and children.

In a press statement issued on September 10, 2026, with Ref. No. KWU-PR-03/09/2026, the women body said it is deeply hurt by such an inhumane act of blocking food and essential commodities.

The Union stated that Kamjong and Chassad have a long history of peaceful co-existence. The two communities have lived together for generations with love and mutual respect, sharing food and essential commodities. Such an act of blocking food is unprecedented and deeply hurtful, it said.

Condemning the embargo, the KWU said denying food and essential commodities to fellow human beings who cannot survive without them is inhumane and against Christian values. It is against the teachings of Christianity which preaches love, compassion and forgiveness.

The women body also expressed sorrow that under the leadership of Raizan and EKCA, outsiders are being allowed to create division between two communities who have always lived together in peace. This is a matter of great sorrow, the statement added.

The Kuki Women Union further stated that it has made all efforts till today to ensure that no problems arise and to maintain peace. However, it warned that if such a situation continues, it will be compelled to take recourse to appropriate measures.

The Union appealed to all village elders, church leaders and right-thinking citizens to intervene and immediately lift the economic embargo and restore the age-old bond of peaceful co-existence.

The statement was issued by Kuki Women Union, Kamjong District and copies were forwarded to the Deputy Commissioner of Kamjong District, Superintendent of Police of Kamjong District, President of Raizan Long, President of EKCA and all media houses for necessary action.
