Karbi Anglong: April 19, 2026

The body of a polling officer who went missing on election day was recovered under mysterious circumstances from a dense forest in Karbi Anglong, south of Kaziranga, ten days after his disappearance. The discovery has triggered widespread concern and raised serious questions about the events leading to his death.

The deceased has been identified as 49-year-old Cornelius Kindo, a TET teacher from Diphu’s Dhansiri Bazar area. He was serving as a third polling officer at the Charpoh Kathar Primary School polling station under Rongwong Police Station jurisdiction. Kindo was reported missing around noon on polling day from a location known as Tim Hem.

According to reports, local residents stumbled upon the body on Saturday while heading towards the hills. The body was found in a completely naked condition deep inside a remote and inaccessible forest area. Following information from locals, police teams from Rongwong Police Station trekked through difficult terrain late at night to recover the remains.

Kindo was also employed as a TET teacher at Kathalguri Nepali Basti Primary School. After he went missing during ongoing election proceedings, police had launched multiple search operations, including drone surveillance, across the Rongwong area. All efforts had failed to trace him until Saturday’s discovery.

The recovery site is located nearly 25 kilometres away from the polling station where Kindo was last seen. The remote location, his naked condition, and the ten-day gap between his disappearance and the recovery have deepened the mystery surrounding the case.

Police have brought the body to Rongwong Police Station and are expected to initiate a thorough investigation to ascertain the cause and circumstances of death. Further details are awaited as post-mortem and forensic examinations are conducted.
