Kanggui, July 29, 2026; The Ihang-Bungpi Working Committee, Sadar Hills, Kangpokpi has strongly condemned the recent violent actions against the Kuki community, particularly the alleged deliberate destruction of medicines and essential commodities by individuals from the Tangkhul and Meitei communities in Yaingangpokpi and Thamnapokpi on July 26, 2026.
In a condemnation statement issued on Monday under Ref No. PR-04010, the Committee stated that it was alarmed by reports of vehicles transporting crucial supplies being set on fire.
According to the Committee, the driver and co-driver of the vehicles were brutally assaulted and threatened with death if they continued their deliveries to the Kuki community.
“Such acts represent a direct assault on civilians and constitute severe violations of human rights and legal standards,” the statement said.
The Committee expressed profound concern that no action has been taken so far against those who perpetrated the acts.
Raising questions to the government, the Committee asked why the State Government is remaining silent in the face of open lawlessness, and whether the Government of Manipur has tacitly endorsed the actions of Tangkhul and Meitei groups of assaulting, threatening, and destroying goods intended for the Kuki community.
The Committee stated that the paramount responsibility of any government is to uphold law and order and protect all citizens impartially and without discrimination.
Therefore, the Committee demanded an immediate, impartial investigation into the incidents, along with the prompt arrest of the individuals involved and the implementation of strict legal action in accordance with the law.
It further demanded that the State Government must clarify its commitment to maintaining law and order in Manipur.
The Committee warned that failure to act will be perceived as tacit complicity, further undermining public trust and exacerbating tensions within the region.
