Kanggui, Aug 4, 2026: In a major breakthrough, a joint team of security forces has recovered a large cache of arms, ammunition and explosives from Kangpokpi district, officials said on Monday.

The search operation was conducted early morning from 5:30 AM to 9:30 AM in the dense forested area between Makokchung Bridge and Tusam Village under Saikul Sub-Division. The area was suspected to be used by unidentified miscreants to hide weapons.

The operation was jointly carried out by Manipur Police, 16 Assam Rifles, 28 Assam Rifles and B Company of 133 CRPF. It was led by Lunthang Vaiphei, MPS, SDPO Saparmeina, assisted by the Officer-in-Charge of Saikul Police Station, under the overall supervision of Rahul Gupta, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Kangpokpi District.

According to police, during the intensive combing operation, the team recovered 31 firearms including one M-16 rifle, one .303 rifle, six pistols, several locally made Pompi guns, bombs and a large quantity of ammunition. The weapons were found concealed in the jungle, allegedly hidden by suspected miscreants.

Sources said the seizure is a significant success in the ongoing efforts to maintain peace and prevent misuse of illegal arms in the district. The recovered arms could have been used to disturb the law and order situation.

All seized items have been handed over to Saikul Police Station for necessary legal formalities and further investigation is underway to identify those who had concealed the weapons.

Security forces have intensified search operations across Kangpokpi district in recent weeks.
