The False Prophecy and the Kuki Society Today

God warns in Jeremiah 23:16-17 against prophets who speak from their own minds. Many modern prophecies promising wealth, land and political freedom have divided Kuki society and shifted faith from the Bible to the words of men. This article calls for rejecting false prophecies and returning to Scripture alone.

Thus says the Lord of hosts in Jeremiah 23:16-17: “Do not listen to the words of the prophets who prophesy to you, filling you with vain hopes. They speak visions of their own minds, not from the mouth of the LORD. They say continually to those who despise the word of the Lord, ‘It shall be well with you.'” This warning was given to ancient Israel, but it is a direct message for Kuki society today. God commands us not to listen to those who claim to speak in His name when He has not sent them.

What then is a false prophecy? Scripture gives us two clear marks. First, it offers false comfort. It tells people exactly what they want to hear — that you will be rich, you will win the war, God will bless you, you will be great, and no evil will come upon you — even when they are living in sin. Second, its source is not God, but the prophet’s own imagination.

Today in Kuki society, the prophecies associated with self-proclaimed prophets like Nu Parchi, Nu Moi, Nu Chinkholam, Pu Chomlhun and many others are widely believed. They promise peace, prosperity, wealth, freedom, and the promise of land, including statehood and nationhood. This is dangerous because it fills people with vain hopes. Our people are suffering and longing for a better future, and false prophets exploit this desire by declaring great things about our nation that God never said. When these prophecies fail, our youth become confused, their faith weakens, and they begin to doubt God Himself, when in truth, God never spoke those words.

The damage to Kuki society is already visible. Churches are divided, families are divided, and marriages are broken. The focus of our faith has shifted from the Holy Bible to prophetic words, dreams, and visions. Many no longer read the Bible seriously because they are waiting for the next prophecy on social media. This is exactly what Satan desires — to replace the true, written Word of God with the false, spoken words of men.

Therefore, my humble advice to all my beloved Kuki people is this: Do not believe, do not follow, and do not run after the prophecies of today. Do not seek out prophets to tell you your future. Do not accept any message that adds to or contradicts the Bible. Stop following visions that come from their own minds. If a prophecy does not come from the mouth of the Lord as revealed in Scripture, reject it completely.

We must return to the Bible alone. The Bible is the complete, final, and all-sufficient Word of God. As 2 Timothy 3:16-17 declares, all Scripture is God-breathed and is sufficient to make us complete for every good work. We do not need a new word from a prophet; we need to obey the old Word from God. If you want to know God’s will, open your Bible. If you want to hear God’s voice, read your Bible. The Bible is enough.

Let the Kuki society be known once again as a people of the Bible, not as a people of false prophecy. True hope for our people will not come from a man or a woman saying, “It shall be well with you.” True hope will come only when we repent of our sins, believe in Jesus Christ alone, and follow only what the Bible says. Believe the Bible, follow the Bible, and obey the Bible — and you will never be deceived.
