Sadar Hills: The Twilang Area Kuki CSO Coordinating Media Cell, Kangpokpi District, Manipur has extended its warm greetings and salutations to all the people of Twilang Area while raising serious alarm over the worsening situation in the region.
In a press release issued today under Reference No. TAKCSMC/PR-01/2026 dated 22-08-2026, the Committee informed that a meeting was convened today to deliberate extensively on the prevailing situation in Twilang Area. The meeting particularly focused on the growing concerns over the denial of basic human rights, the imposition of restrictions on civilian movement, and the mounting difficulties faced by ordinary people in accessing essential healthcare and other basic necessities.
The Committee stated that it takes serious note of the grave and volatile political situation unfolding in and around the Twilang Area. At the same time, it recalled that the Kuki and Naga communities share a long history of mutual understanding, peaceful coexistence, close social interaction, and friendship that has existed for generations. In the present difficult circumstances, the Committee firmly believes that preserving and rebuilding this spirit of mutual understanding and age-old friendship is essential for creating the right conditions for peace and normalcy to return to the area.
Despite the numerous challenges confronting the region, the Committee remains of the considered view that the present crisis can still be addressed through peaceful means. It emphasized that dialogue, mutual respect, responsible engagement, and a spirit of reconciliation are the only way forward, while keeping in mind the longstanding ties and interdependence between the two communities. The Committee stressed that confrontation will only deepen the suffering of innocent civilians.
With this constructive objective, the Committee said it seeks to create an avenue for renewed, meaningful, and constructive engagement between the two sides. It stated that such dialogue is necessary so that existing mistrust, misunderstanding, and differences can be addressed peacefully and responsibly, without causing further hardship to the public.
The Committee further emphasised that every responsible Civil Society Organisation has a fundamental and moral obligation to safeguard the welfare, dignity, safety, and basic rights of all civilians. This responsibility, it said, must transcend community, political, or other differences and must be upheld under all circumstances. No political objective should come at the cost of civilian lives and basic humanitarian rights.
In the larger interest of public welfare, humanitarian principles, and to prevent further suffering, the Committee earnestly made a five-point appeal to the Naga brethren and CSOs operating along the Imphal-Tamenglong Road (IT Road):
- On Civilian Movement: To immediately refrain from obstructing or restricting the movement of civilian vehicles, particularly vehicles transporting essential goods, food supplies, and persons requiring urgent assistance. Such restrictions directly affect daily life and livelihood.
- On Medical Emergency: To ensure unhindered and safe passage for ambulances, particularly those carrying patients requiring emergency medical attention. The Committee noted that blocking medical routes could result in loss of precious lives.
- On Healthcare Access: To facilitate the safe and uninterrupted movement of medical personnel, healthcare workers, doctors, and vehicles engaged in essential medical services, so that healthcare delivery is not disrupted in the remote areas.
- On Humanitarian Cooperation: To extend full cooperation to all humanitarian and medical movements, irrespective of community affiliation or identity, in keeping with the universal principles of humanity and humanitarian service.
- On Communication: To establish effective channels of communication and coordination with Kuki stakeholders and CSOs to prevent further misunderstandings, address emerging concerns on the ground, and facilitate the restoration of normalcy and peace along the IT Road corridor.
The Committee stated that it makes this appeal in good faith and with the sincere conviction that responsible leadership and constructive engagement on all sides can prevent further civilian suffering and create an environment that is conducive to peace and reconciliation.
The Committee expressed its firm belief that collective responsibility, mutual understanding, genuine dialogue, and active cooperation between Kuki and Naga civil society organisations can contribute meaningfully towards finding a peaceful and sustainable resolution to the present crisis. It reiterated that the protection of civilian life, access to essential healthcare, and the unhindered movement of humanitarian services must remain above all other considerations and political differences.
Concluding its appeal, the Committee said, “Let dialogue prevail over confrontation. Let humanity prevail over division. Let peace and normalcy return to Twilang Area. God bless Twilang Area.”
