Kangpokpi: The Kuki Village Volunteers, Twilang Lhang has strongly condemned the attack on Lhungjang Village under Kangpokpi District and Tadubi Constituency in the early hours of today, despite the presence and deployment of Indian Reserve Battalion and security forces.
According to the press release bearing Ref No. KVVTL/03-07/09-26 dated 7th September 2026, the village was reportedly attacked at approximately 5:00 a.m. today by the NSCN-IM and Liangmei Village Guard targeting villagers and civilians. The group said repeated attacks on Kuki villages and innocent civilians have crossed all limits of tolerance.
The volunteers stated that the reported burning of the school along with the attack on civilians is a grave and utterly condemnable act. Targeting innocent civilians and destroying an educational institution shows the extent to which perpetrators disregard human life and civilian property, it said.
Issuing a strong and unequivocal warning, the Kuki Village Volunteers, Twilang Lhang said repeated attacks on Kuki villages and civilians will not be met with silence or continued restraint, and perpetrators will be held responsible for their actions and any consequences arising from continued violence.
The group also questioned the Government as to why it continues to ignore the plight and security concerns of the Kuki people. It asked why Kuki villages are being left vulnerable even when security forces are deployed in the area, stating that mere presence of security personnel means little if civilians continue to come under attack.
The Government cannot continue to remain a silent spectator while civilians are repeatedly subjected to violence, fear and insecurity, the release said. Its continued failure to protect vulnerable villages is unacceptable and raises serious questions about its commitment to safety and security of the people.
The volunteers therefore called upon the Government and the concerned security authorities to immediately take concrete and decisive measures to protect Kuki villages, prevent further attacks and hold those responsible for today’s incident accountable.
It made it categorically clear that the present situation cannot be allowed to continue indefinitely, and if the Government continues to fail in its fundamental responsibility to protect civilians, it must bear full responsibility for any further deterioration and any untoward incidents that may arise.
The group further stated that it will not remain silent while innocent civilians are targeted, villages are attacked and schools are burnt, and demanded that perpetrators must be held accountable and the Government must answer for its failure to protect the people.
