Chassad, June 19, 2026: The Eastern Kuki Chiefs’ Association, Kamjong District, on June 19 condemned what it described as action taken by 11 Assam Rifles against Kuki village volunteers near Molvailup at around 4:30 am the same day. In a press statement issued from its head office in Chassad, the association said the volunteers were patrolling to safeguard Kuki villages in Kamjong District.

According to the EKCA, security forces targeted volunteers “instead of taking decisive action against the actual aggressors.” The statement called the move “deeply misguided and highly ungrateful,” adding that the volunteers were formed with a “singular mission: to protect our people, who have been left entirely undefended by the security forces.”

The association raised what it termed “critical questions regarding inaction and apparent double standards” by security forces. Under “Humanitarian Neglect,” the EKCA asked what measures had been taken regarding the burning of Lanchah village and the “forced starvation of Kuki civilians” in Kamjong District. It alleged that the Nagas had imposed an economic embargo on the Kuki community, prohibiting purchase of essentials, including medicine, and cutting off supply lines. The statement claimed there had been “total silence and inaction from the security forces and state government.”

On “Failure to Contain Violence,” the EKCA questioned what was being done about the recent burning of Kultuh village and the “brutal killing of two civilians by Tangkhul militants and Myanmar-based militants (SNA).”

Citing “National Security Compromise,” the association asked why foreign militants were being allowed to “freely cross the border, ally with Tangkhul militants, and launch attacks on innocent Indian citizens inside Indian territory.” The statement claimed security forces were “fully aware” that foreign militants had been “openly occupying Indian territory, specifically residing in Chahong Khunou, Chatric Khunou, and Chatric Khullen for the past two years,” and questioned the lack of action to neutralize the threat.

In its demand, the EKCA called upon authorities to launch a “thorough investigation into this partial treatment, the unchecked cross-border militant operations, and the ongoing humanitarian crisis affecting the Kuki population.”

The press statement, bearing Ref. No. 06/2026/EKCA/PR-05 and dated June 19, 2026, was issued by the EKCA Media and Publicity Cell. The association lists “Peace and Prosperity” as its motto. Security forces had not issued a public response to the allegations at the time of reporting.
