Chassad/Kamjong: The Haokip People’s Council, General Headquarters, has strongly and unequivocally condemned the killing of two Kuki civilians at Chassad village, the head village of the Haokip clan, in Kamjong district. In a condemnation note dated 10/10/26 issued by its Information & Publicity Secretary, the Council alleged that personnel of the India Reserve Battalion (IRB) posted in Kamjong and cadres of NSCN-IM were responsible for the deaths.

According to the HPC-GHQ, the first incident occurred on the fateful night of 09/10/26 at Chassad village. The Council said Mrs. Damkhonei, 42 years, was killed in cold blood after security personnel allegedly opened live round fire upon minority Kuki villagers. The HPC termed the deliberate targeting of an innocent civilian with live bullets as inhuman, cowardly and an utterly unacceptable act of terror against the Kuki villagers of Chassad.

The second incident, as per the statement, took place on 10/10/26. The Council said Mr. Micheal Ngamminlen Haokip, 22 years, the village guard who stood firmly for the safety of Chassad civilians till his death, was killed on October 10. The HPC alleged that after his killing, some houses and goods were burnt down into ashes by the attackers. The Council said the guard died while protecting civilians of his own village.

The Haokip People’s Council extended its deepest condolence to the bereaved families of Mrs Domkhonei and Mr Ngamminlen Haokip and prayed that the departed souls may rest in peace. The Council, whose motto is “Lungkhat seh nei putsah un” Psalm 86:11 and which was established in 1960 with head office at Chassad, Kamjong district and administrative office at S. Phaipijang Village, Songpi Lamka, said Chassad as the head of the Haokip clan holds historical and cultural significance and any attack on it affects the entire community.

The HPC stated that these continuous attacks pose a serious threat to the lives, safety and security of civilians in the region. It appealed to authorities of both the State and the Central Government to keep alert and maintain vigilant arrangement of security personnel for the safety of minority Kukis of Kamjong and Ukhrul districts, Chassad in particular, to prevent further escalation of violence and destruction.

The Council urged the government to ensure impartial investigation, prevent misuse of state forces and check activities of armed groups operating in the area. It sought adequate protection for Kuki villages in Kamjong and Ukhrul which it said remain vulnerable.
