Henglep, June 17, 2026: Manipur Legislative Assembly Member Letzamang Haokip from 57-Henglep (ST) Assembly Constituency has strongly condemned the killing of Lenminsang Haokip, son of Lenkhogin Haokip, at the hands of joint security forces in North Songkong village, Henglep Sub-Division.
In a written statement dated 17 June 2026, Haokip termed the incident “deeply disturbing and unacceptable,” stating that a civilian losing his life at the hands of those entrusted with his protection strikes at the very foundation of public trust.
Citing eyewitness accounts, the MLA alleged that after Lenminsang was shot, his clothes were removed and his body was taken away by joint security forces. He further noted allegations that attempts were made to portray the incident as a fake encounter after the death. Haokip said that if these allegations are found true, it would constitute a grave abuse of authority and a serious violation of the rule of law.
The statement highlighted the continued failure to return the mortal remains of the deceased as compounding the pain of the bereaved family. Haokip emphasized that every family has the right to perform the last rites of their loved one with dignity and respect.

Condemnation letter dated 17 June 2026 from 57-Henglep (ST) MLA Letzamang Haokip on the killing of civilian Lenminsang Haokip by joint security forces in North Songkong village, demanding an independent judicial inquiry and immediate return of the body for last rites.
The MLA issued three key demands: immediate recovery and handover of the mortal remains to the family, a thorough judicial and independent inquiry into the incident, and stringent action against all those found responsible. He added that any attempt to conceal facts, tamper with evidence, or misrepresent the circumstances must be investigated and dealt with strictly in accordance with the law.
Haokip extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and stated that he stands firmly with them in their pursuit of truth and justice.
The condemnation comes amid rising tensions in Henglep Sub-Division following the 16 June operation involving CRPF (COBRA) personnel near Songkong village that led to Lenminsang’s death.
