Songpi July 25, 2026: In a major breakthrough, security forces have arrested a senior cadre of the United Kuki National Army (UKNA) from Manipur’s Churachandpur district. The arrested individual has been identified as S. Palal Thadou alias Lalboi Singson, 45, who was serving as the self-styled Finance Secretary of the outfit. He is considered a High-Value Target by security agencies.
According to official sources, the operation was carried out on July 23, 2026, in a coordinated effort by the Indian Army, Assam Rifles and State Police. The joint team acted on specific intelligence inputs regarding the presence of the militant leader in Molnom Village under Churachandpur district and swiftly cordoned off the area.
Following confirmation of his location, the forces launched a search operation and successfully apprehended him without any exchange of fire. During the search, security personnel recovered a mobile phone and other incriminating materials from his possession, which are now being examined for further investigation.
Police said S. Palal Thadou was wanted in connection with several firing incidents and other cases attributed to the UKNA in Churachandpur and adjoining areas. As Finance Secretary, he was allegedly responsible for managing the financial affairs and logistical support for the outfit’s operations.
The United Kuki National Army is one of the active armed groups operating in the hill districts of Manipur. Security agencies have intensified operations in recent months to curb unlawful activities and restore normalcy in the region.
An official statement described the arrest as a significant success and said it will contribute substantially to restoring peace and stability in the region. The arrested person has been handed over to Manipur Police for further investigation and legal proceedings.
Security forces have reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order and said such coordinated operations will continue against anti-national elements to ensure the safety of civilians.
