The Kuki Women Union (KWU), Thangting Block, has issued a strong objection to any proposal to withdraw Central Forces and replace them with State Forces in P. Gelmol Village, Kangvai Sub Division, Churachandpur District. The statement, released from its administrative office in Khousabung on Monday, comes amid concerns over shifting security arrangements in conflict-sensitive areas of Manipur.

In its press release, the KWU said that replacing Central Forces with State Forces, which it identified as Meitei Police, would not bring peace but instead create fear among the Kuki community residing in the area. The organisation urged the Ministry of Home Affairs and the State government to reconsider the proposal, which it said was made by the Meitei community, and to prioritize the safety and sentiments of the local Kuki population.

The union demanded that Central Forces continue to be deployed in P. Gelmol Village until complete normalcy returns to the region. It maintained that the presence of Central forces is essential for ensuring a sense of security for residents, given the ongoing ethnic tensions and the lack of trust in state-administered security personnel among the Kuki community.
