An official confirmed on Monday that the acute fuel shortage affecting Churachandpur district is expected to ease by this evening, following the restoration of supply routes that were disrupted by protests in the valley. The assurance comes after several days of scarcity that impacted transport, businesses, and daily life across the hill district.

According to the official, the primary cause of the disruption was the blockade of fuel tankers along the Bishnupur route, a critical transit corridor that connects the valley to Churachandpur. The route had been rendered impassable due to ongoing demonstrations by protesters, who stopped the movement of trucks carrying essential commodities, including petrol and diesel. With no tankers able to reach the district, fuel pumps began running dry, triggering long queues and rationing in several areas.

The protests intensified following the Tronglaobi bomb attack on April 7, an incident that killed two children and seriously injured their mother. In the aftermath, demonstrators in multiple valley locations, particularly along the Bishnupur-Churachandpur stretch, enforced roadblocks that halted the flow of commercial traffic into the hill areas. Bishnupur district, which directly borders Churachandpur, has historically served as the main gateway for goods entering the southern hill district, making the blockade especially disruptive.

To circumvent the stalled route, authorities have now rerouted fuel transportation through Jiribam, located on the western edge of the state. Officials said that tanker movement via this alternative corridor has already resumed, with consignments currently en route to Churachandpur. The Jiribam route, though longer and logistically more demanding, has allowed supply chains to restart while tensions persist along the Bishnupur axis.

With fuel trucks now moving again, officials expressed confidence that distribution to petrol stations across Churachandpur will normalize by evening. They added that monitoring teams are tracking tanker arrivals to ensure timely unloading and supply to retail outlets. The administration expects that once stocks are replenished, the immediate crisis will subside, though concerns remain over long-term stability if the Bishnupur route remains blocked to commercial traffic.
