Introduction: A Cry for Help to the World
The Kuki people need help, and we need the world to hear our voice. For more than three years, we have been crying from the hills of Manipur, but our cries have not reached New Delhi. We are a small, tribal, Christian community in the far corner of India, facing persecution and erasure. We have no big media to speak for us and no political power in Parliament. That is why we are appealing to the international community, to churches, to human rights organizations, and to all who believe in justice and religious freedom. Please hear our story.
Two Peoples, Two Administrations on the Ground
The wound in Manipur is too big to hide and the killings too gruesome to forget. The ground reality after May 3, 2023 is clear to the world. Kuki and Meitei can no longer live under one administration. They are only neighbours now, separated by buffer zones, central forces, history, culture and identity. A Kuki can no longer enter a Meitei area, and a Meitei cannot enter a Kuki area. Two separate administrations are already functioning on the ground, but the Modi government refuses to officially recognize this reality.
The Real Reason is Religious Discrimination
The reason for this refusal is not law and order or territorial integrity. The Modi governments denial of a separate State or Union Territory for the Kuki community is discrimination against Christians. The Kuki people are predominantly Christian tribals, and that is why our constitutional demand for safety and self governance is being rejected. If the same demand had come from a Hindu community, the BJP would have celebrated it as a step for development and national security.
BJPs Bias Violates the Secular Constitution
This anti Christian bias of the Modi led BJP government is now open. The government shows full support and sympathy towards the Hindu Meitei community while showing step motherly treatment to the Christian Kuki community. This is completely against the Indian Constitution, which declares India a secular country guaranteeing freedom of religion. A secular government cannot favour one religion and punish another. By denying political protection to Christian tribals, the Modi government is violating its own constitutional oath.
A Grave Human Rights Violation Against Tribal Christians
What is happening in Manipur is a grave human rights violation against tribal Christians. Our churches were burnt, our villages destroyed, and our people were killed through torture, beheading, burning alive, rape and butchering, while thousands were displaced. Yet the central government remains silent. This silence is not neutral, it is political. It tells Kuki Christians that their lives, their faith, and their votes do not matter to New Delhi because they are a religious minority.
Separate State and UT is the Only Path to Peace
The only way to bring peace to the region is for India to grant a separate State or Union Territory for the Kuki community. There is no other solution left. As long as the Modi government continues its anti Christian policy of forcing Kukis to live again under an administration that attacked them, peace will never return. A separate Kuki State or UT is the only just, secular, and democratic solution.
Sixty Thousand Displaced: Collective Punishment Continues
The human rights violation is continuing and deepening every day. For more than three years, over sixty thousand Kuki people displaced from Imphal have been living in relief camps without proper homes, jobs, or education for their children. Their properties have been looted and occupied, their documents burnt, and their right to return denied. This is collective punishment against an entire tribal Christian community. When the state allows one community to be uprooted from its ancestral homes and then blocks its political future, it is not governance, it is persecution.
Still Waiting for Justice from the Modi Government
Even after more than three years of pain, the Kuki people are still waiting and hoping that the Modi led BJP government will grant a State or Union Territory for our survival. We are not asking for anything unconstitutional. We are asking for protection under the same Constitution of India. We still believe in democracy and we still hope that New Delhi will one day listen to our cries and treat us as equal citizens. Our demand for a separate administration is not against India, it is for survival within India, for a future where our children can live without fear.
Two Hundred Fifty Plus Martyrs Cannot Be Ignored, The World is Watching
The sacrifice of over two hundred fifty Kuki civilian martyrs cannot be ignored or denied. For more than three years, their families have waited for justice. Their blood is the price of our survival. They were not militants, they were fathers, mothers, pastors, students, and village defenders who died protecting their families and their faith. The world has seen our villages burning, our churches destroyed, and our tears. Their martyrdom must not be in vain. To deny Kuki statehood now is to insult their sacrifice. A separate State and UT is the only befitting tribute to those martyrs and the only guarantee that such killings will never happen again.
This is Not Only Manipur, Christians Across India Face the Same Discrimination
What is happening to Kuki Christians in Manipur is not an isolated incident. It is part of a larger pattern of anti Christian discrimination under the Modi led BJP government across India. In Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Karnataka, pastors are jailed under false anti conversion laws, churches are vandalized, and prayer meetings are attacked by Hindutva groups while police remain silent spectators. In many BJP ruled states, Christians are branded as foreigners for practising their faith. Reports by the Evangelical Fellowship of India and the United Christian Forum documented more than seven hundred cases of violence against Christians every year from 2023 to 2025. This proves that the denial of Kuki State or UT is not just about Manipur, it is about an ideology. The Modi government is systematically anti Christian, and Kuki tribals are being punished in Manipur because of that same ideology.
Conclusion: The World Must Not Stay Silent
The Kuki need help and a voice from around the world now. After more than three years of suffering, we cannot fight this battle for survival alone against a powerful majoritarian state. We call upon the United Nations, the global Christian community, human rights defenders, and every democracy that believes in freedom of religion to speak for us. Do not let our martyrs be forgotten. Do not let the secular promise of India die in Manipur. Raise your voice and tell the Modi government that discrimination against Christian tribals is unacceptable. Help us secure our own State or Union Territory, help us live with dignity, and help us secure a future of peace.
