Songpi: The Kuki Human Rights Council (KHRC) has issued a clarification stating that a document being circulated on social media by the Facebook page Ruangmei Today using its letterhead is fake and forged. In its official statement Ref. No. KHRC/PR/10/2026-14 dated 4th October 2026, the council said a document bearing Ref. No. KHRC/PR/10/2026-13 dated 3rd October 2026 titled “A Public Appeal for an End to Violence and for Peace with the Naga Community” circulated by Ruangmei Today has not been issued by KHRC.
KHRC said the letterhead, signature and official seal used in the document circulated by Ruangmei Today have been forged and misused without any permission, authorization or knowledge of the council. The clarification was issued by the Secretary, Information and Publicity, KHRC from its Head Office at Lamka, Songpi – 795128. KHRC, whose motto is Equality, Justice and Freedom and was established on 5th March 2025, said the contents of the fake letter do not reflect its official position in any manner.
Strongly condemning the act, KHRC said the Facebook page Ruangmei Today has committed forgery and impersonation to spread misinformation and misuse the name and credibility of the council. The council said fabrication of a human rights organization’s official stationery is a serious criminal offence and an attempt to create confusion among communities at a sensitive time when KHRC is actively pursuing human rights violations against Kukis.
The council said the fake peace appeal by Ruangmei Today has been circulated at a time when KHRC is raising the abduction of 71-year-old farmer Hemjang Haokip from Khunkho Village, Leimakhong on 3rd October allegedly by armed cadres of NSCN-IM and ZUF-Kamson. KHRC said vested interests are using pages like Ruangmei Today to dilute its advocacy, misrepresent its stand on Naga-Kuki issues and portray a false narrative before the public.

KHRC has appealed to the public, media houses and civil society organizations not to share, publish or believe the fake document circulated by Ruangmei Today. It said circulation of such forged documents amounts to spreading fake news and those sharing it may also be held liable. The council urged verification of any document claiming to be from KHRC only through its official email khrc4kukiland@gmail.com and official press release channels.
Issuing a final warning to Ruangmei Today, KHRC demanded immediate removal of the fake document, to stop misusing its letterhead, seal and signature, and to issue a public clarification. Failing which, the council said an FIR will be filed and strict legal action for forgery, cheating, impersonation and defamation will be initiated against the page admin and all those involved. KHRC said it will continue to work for protection of human rights and will take all legal recourse to protect its institutional integrity.
